Investing in Greater Manchester: how our Principal Partner scheme works and how you can join

By Graham Whitham, Chief Executive at Resolve Poverty

Resolve Poverty is proud of the work we have delivered in Greater Manchester. Much of that work has been built on the network we have established and spaces for connection we have created through our newsletter, programme work and events.

One year on from our rebrand, we are establishing networks in Lancashire and Liverpool City Region. We have been able to deliver work in a range of localities, including Sunderland, Cambridgeshire and Wokingham. We are speaking into government ahead of national Child Poverty Strategy publication and enactment of the socio-economic duty.

These activities are growing our reach and deepening our expertise. We know that this adds value to the impact we can have here in Greater Manchester.

Our strategic partnership with Greater Manchester NHS and delivery of our Money Advice Referral Tool and Money Matters programmes means that we are shaping policy and practice across the city region.

However, we don’t receive dedicated funding for the infrastructural anti-poverty work and support we provide in Greater Manchester.

That is where our Greater Manchester Principal Partner Scheme comes in. Our Principal Partner Scheme is for all businesses and organisations who want to see a Greater Manchester free from poverty, and who are able to support us with small annual financial contributions. We rely on the financial support we receive from Principal Partners to deliver the work we do in the city region. We are introducing a tiered approach to the scheme to make it accessible to organisations of every size.

The support we receive from Principal Partners enables us to:

Support stakeholders with the knowledge to tackle poverty, through:

Amplify our voice, through:

  • Engagement in key strategic Greater Manchester anti-poverty forums
  • National policy engagement and advocacy.

In addition to the above activities, we work with Principal Partners to:

  • Promote and amplify their work through our newsletters, other communication channels and at our events
  • Offer discounted access to training and events, including our annual conference
  • Provide mutual support in accessing influencing spaces, particularly at a Greater Manchester level.

Current members of the scheme include Greater Manchester-based national organisations, five of the ten local councils, universities, housing groups, VCFSE organisations and private sector businesses.

“Kellogg’s has a long history of investing in the community so as a food company based in Greater Manchester since 1938, we are proud to support the work of Resolve Poverty through becoming a Principal Partner” – Kate Prince, Senior Manager, ESG for Europe, Kellogg’s
