Ruth Welford

Ruth has 20 years’ service with children’s charity Barnardo’s and now leads the charity’s Special Projects Team as Assistant Director. She has significant knowledge and experience around safeguarding, inclusion and child poverty, leading the charity’s response to the cost-of-living crisis.

Ruth also has a breadth of regulatory experience, including chairing adoption and safeguarding boards and sits on the Co-op Academies Trust Board. She is also an alumnus of Common Purpose, GM Leaders Plus and is a Leaders Plus Fellow.

Ruth is based in Manchester and is passionate about creating the conditions for people to achieve their potential and the need for systematic change to support this. This aligns closely with Barnardo’s mission of changing childhoods and changing lives. The charity has been working for over 150 years to support children experiencing poverty, bringing love, care and hope into their lives and giving them a place where they feel they belong.
