James is Director for Poverty, Families and Disadvantage in the DWP Policy Group.
His team leads policy and analytical work on poverty and the cost of living within DWP. He is also part of the leadership team for the Child Poverty Unit in the Cabinet Office developing the Government’s Child Poverty Strategy.
He has worked in the Department for over 20 years, including spells as Director for health and disability benefits policy and as Head of Policy for Universal Credit.
